I think spring is really finally here. It is gorgeous here today, so we finished up school and headed down to the creek for a picnic. If I allowed them, the kids would stay down there all day. Sometimes they skip rocks, other times they are into floating boats down the creek, other times they try to build dams. Today was mostly about collecting all the wild onions they could find. I think their hands are going to smell like onions for quite some time!
On another note….. I think Elijah is going to be our accident-prone kid. Maybe he’s just growing into his ten year old body, but he does seem to have a knack for um, let’s say just being a little klutzy.
The other day he tripped while playing in the woods and fell into a piece of wood he was carrying. He called it a “triangle wood” (yes, we’ve been working on shapes!). Evidently none of the kids thought it was too serious because it wasn’t until about an hour later when I called them in for supper that I saw his bloody and swollen eye. It looks even worse now as it is healing and becoming more discolored.
I’ve also been recording some of Elijah’s fun English. He is doing SO well and everyone is floored at how much he has progressed. Okay, here are some things I hear a lot:
“What doing?” (For what is that, or what are you doing, or where are you going….)
“Mommy”
“What dat for?” (For just about anything and everything, he is very inquisitive.)
“Mommy”
“My don’t like that.” or “My go to outside.” (He uses “my” for “I”.)
“Mommy”
“Somesing” or “My all done map (math)” (th is difficult)
“Mommy”
“In good afternoon my go to outside.” Or “In good morning I see Daddy wake me up”
“Mommy”
“Jie jie” (he still most often calls Michaela “big sister” in Chinese, everyone else is by their name)
“Mommy” and “Mommy”
He talks a LOT about anything and everything. Even as I walk through the room he just says “Mommy” just to say something. As much as the repetition of “mommy, mommy” can start to drive me crazy, it holds so much meaning. I guess he just needs to make up for time with no one to call mommy and I’ll be more than happy to oblige!
