Day 2 in Japan – New Years Eve

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

We had another fun day with cousins and family.  The kids are getting along great and seem to be paired up playing together.  We had a special New Years Eve meal this evening with turkey and the works.  I am feeling more tired tonight so maybe jetlag is catching up with me.  I won’t be up to ring in the new year this time, but we are looking forward to 2009 and the addition of another son and brother!

Day 1 in Japan

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Wow, time flies when you are having fun and there are nine kids that keep things hopping!  My sister’s family is currently living in my parents’ basement.  They have five kids that are very close in age to our children’s ages and they are all having a blast.  We all slept pretty well last night and with the kids constantly going all day they didn’t have time to feel jet lagged.  We also had a small Christmas celebration tonight with gifts to open just a few days late.  The house is now quiet and cleaned up again after the storm of kids.  :)

I’ll post some pictures from the last couple of days, so look back at the previous posts for those.  Thanks for your notes and looking forward with us.  We can’t help but wonder what Elijah is thinking right now and how he is feeling.  Hopefully he is not anxious, but just enjoying the time he has left with his friends.  NEXT WEEK is coming quickly!

We made it to Japan

We are here and so happy to be with family.  We are all very tired and are ready for bed, but I wanted to get this posted.  I’ll add more and pictures tomorrow when my brain is working better and I can see straight.  One step closer to Elijah!

Stuck in San Fran

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

I’d like to post that we are safe and sound in Osaka, but at least we are safe and sound in SF.  We boarded the plane bright and early in Kansas City, but as soon as we were ready to push back they rolled us back in due to freezing rain.  We ended up sitting on the plane for three hours before the weather cleared enough for us to be de-iced so that we could take off.  From my experience last Christmas I knew that we had a long day ahead of us and that we’d probably have to catch the next flight to Osaka tomorrow morning.

Fortunately our connecting flight out of Denver was also delayed so we made it to SF this afternoon.  But we got in to SF an hour late, so missed the daily flight to Osaka.  United is great and even though weather is not their fault, they put us up in two hotel rooms (same hotel as last year too!), gave us meal vouchers and even gave each of us 5,000 miles.  We’ll see what we can find for supper with our meal vouchers and then get to bed early tonight.  It will be good to get up tomorrow morning and have just one direct flight to Osaka.  One neat thing is that we will be on the same flight tomorrow with a family friend that is also flying in to be with Dad and Mom.  Only one trip to the airport for them!

We appreciate your continued prayers.  Glad this isn’t delaying our meeting Elijah!  One less day with family, but we are taken care of here.  The kids have done great and we are all healthy.  Ami has been friends with everyone telling them we are going to Katia’s house (her cousin) and then to China to get Elijah.  :)   We’re counting down!

Our Last Christmas as a Family of Six

Thursday, December 25th, 2008

Christmas was a very special way to celebrate our last full day at home before returning with Elijah.  We enjoyed a yummy breakfast, opening the other half of our gifts, and playing with new games and toys.  After our Christmas dinner, everyone pitched in and helped with the packing and house cleaning.  We took down the Christmas decorations and made huge progress in being ready to leave after lunch tomorrow.  The kids were super helpers and were very cheerful with getting us all ready to go.  I pray these attitudes continue!!

As we ended our day with evening devotions together it was very special to think that the next time we were home doing devotions we would have Elijah sitting right with us.  He has been the focus of so many of our devotion times over the last year and a half as we have prayed for him and prayed that God would allow us the privilege of being his family.  This faith that God would hear and answer the desires of our hearts is about to become evident.  The reality is starting to sink in.  Wow!!  What a journey we have been on and the best is yet to come!  In just two short weeks we will face to face with a very special boy.  We’re on our way, Elijah!!

We surprised the kids with a couple of portable DVD players for the trip.

P.S.  Yes, we will be posting while in Japan before we head to China.

Merry Christmas!

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

This has been a wonderfully exhausting day.  We finally received confirmation of our Consulate Appointment in China so that we could purchase our tickets and make further arrangements.  Our tickets have now been issued and we leave in two days!  I was jittery all day like I was on a caffeine high, but it was just excitement and busyness of getting everything taken care of so that we can leave on such short notice.  We got a lot accomplished today, but there is still a bunch to do and we head out of here Friday afternoon and then fly out super early Saturday morning.

We attended the Christmas Eve service at church and then opened about half of our presents tonight.  We are half Wolfe and half Clark, so we have to split the traditions.  :)   Tomorrow morning will be filled with more excitement.  We are so blessed with the four kiddos that we already have at home.  They each gave some very thoughtful gifts to Daddy, Mommy and to each other.  We can’t wait to spill that love on over to Elijah!  If I knew how to photoshop I’d paste Elijah into this family picture, but we’ll get a good family shot soon enough.

Merry Christmas to all our dear friends and family, near and far.  We celebrate the birth of our Savior, the one whose life made it possible for us all to be adopted into His family.  Now that is a gift!!

All I Really Want for Christmas

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

Elijah, we may not be what you envisioned for a family and we know we’re not perfect, but we love you with all our hearts. Next Christmas you will be singing a different song.  Just two more weeks and we will be family.  FAMILY!

We leave in 3 days!!!

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

Oh my!  We still do not have a confirmed Consulate Appointment, but we can go ahead and purchase our tickets.  Unfortunately we were not able to use our miles, but we were able to get some decent fares and it wasn’t much more at all to stop over in Japan.  We are so happy!

We leave Friday afternoon to spend the night near the airport with family, then leave very early Saturday morning to fly out to Japan.  We will spend about a week and a half in Japan with Grandpa and Grandma Clark, Uncle Chad, Aunt Jennifer, and the five fabulous cousins–Anika, Josiah, Caleb, Katia, and Gideon.  :)   It will be wonderful to spend a few days there and it will also make the time pass very quickly until we are with Elijah.

So yes, there is a bit of a frenzy here to get last minute things done and packed, but it is an excited frenzy.  I has not hit me yet that we are so close to meeting Elijah.  I think I have been too preoccupied with so many other things and events going on before our BIG DAY.  Soon enough the time will be here, the countdown is on!

Christmas Tree – 1 and 2

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

Because we thought we’d be in China or Japan for Christmas we told the kids that we weren’t going to do the yearly tradition of going to get a tree at the farm.  They were quite disappointed, especially because we were gone for six weeks last Christmas in Japan and they didn’t get to get out all their favorite ornaments and decorations.  We decided to get out just a few decorations and Benjamin put his miniature tree in the living room for us all to enjoy.  The pile of presents greatly emphasized the tinyness of the tree!

With our news on Friday of our late travel dates, we decided to surprise the kids and go ahead and get a real tree and make the most of our Christmas at home.  We still didn’t go to the farm, just bought a tree off the lot in front of Wal-Mart.  Somehow it’s just not the same as going to the farm!  The kids were so excited and I felt a lot less like Scrooge.  :)

So here is tree #1 and then tree #2.  Funny how you can see it in their faces.
