We love FedEx :)

Friday, November 14th, 2008

So FedEx arrived with our RA document to sign from our agency.  We checked off our list of what to send back, made copies and then sent it back out overnight to our agency.  They’ll send it on to China on Monday, then we wait for our Travel Approval to arrive.  We did tell the FedEx delivery guy that he was our stork.  He was good humored and congratulated us.  It was a different guy than Ami’s stork.  :)

That young boy on the other side of the world has no idea what is about to happen to him.  The news is on it’s way!!

Oh happy day!

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

This has been an emotionally exhausting day, but such a joy!  I think I have finally settled down a bit and am not all jittery and shaking.  I was truly surprised by the phone call this morning.  God has given me such an amazing peace during this three month wait since we were first matched with Elijah.  All along I figured that it would take the average of about 90 days to receive the call.  Guess what?!  Yep, it was exactly 90 days today!

A friend called this morning to say that someone else from our agency had received just their acceptance call.  I was still thinking that it would probably be another week or so for ours, not wanting to get my hopes up.  As soon as I hung up, I told the kids that someone from our agency had received their call.  Then immediately the phone rang and Benjamin said, “That’s our call.”  Sure enough, it was!  There were a lot of happy screams and tears.  I only caught about half of what our family coordinator said, so had to call her back later.  She is used to it and totally understood.  :)

So what now?  Our agency is overnighting the documents to us to sign, then we will turn them right around and overnight them back so that they are at the agency on Monday, to be sent out to China that day.  We will once again have the FedEx man be our stork tomorrow.  Wonder if it will be the same guy as was Ami’s stork.  :)   Then we sit back and wait for China to issue our Travel Approval, which is taking about three weeks.  From there we will likely leave 2-3 weeks after TA.  So, we are looking at the end of December or first part of January.

We plan to stop in Japan on the way to China.  We’ll just leave a bit early and hopefully spend Christmas there again with my family.  Then we will meet up with our travel group when they arrive in China.  Or better yet, we could spend an early Christmas in Japan and then meet Elijah FOR Christmas!  It’s possible.  We’ll just wait and see.

So now we get to tell Elijah that we are his family!!  This is the best part.  We had just finished preparing his special package yesterday.  We included some treats to share with his friends and nannies, as well as a couple of small toys and an MU sweatshirt.  We also have the album that we made for him to show him our home and tell him more about each of us.  Most importantly we included a letter that Chris and I wrote, and also letters that each of the three older children wrote.  They are so precious!  I told the kids that they could finally write whatever they had been wanting to say to Elijah all these many months, but had not had the freedom to do so.  We had these letters translated and the whole package is now on it’s way to China!  We are anxious to hear his reaction.

We thank you for all your prayers and encouragement along the way.  God is good.  We have clearly seen His hand throughout this whole process.  We stand in awe and humbly express our gratefulness to Him for allowing us to bring this special young boy into our family fold.  We’re coming, Elijah!!  We’re coming!!

Michaela thought to grab the camera when the call came. Not such a pretty face when Mama is crying!

We received the BEST news today, with a phone call from our agency.  China has officially accepted us as Elijah’s parents!  We’ve known this all along, just took them a while to catch up to us and to our God.  :)   He is great and greatly to be praised.  I’ll post more later.  We also get to take all the password protection off our site now!!

We were made to serve

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

For the past few months we have been volunteering at our local food bank once a month.  The kids are always excited to go and they do a great job.  They work quickly and have fun in the process, making the time fly by.  It is our hope that this instills in the kids a sense of the need to serve in our community by helping in a small but practical way.  While our hearts and minds are often far away in China where the need is great, we also realize the need to reach out to those in our local area.  I would encourage any of you to seek out a food bank or such in your hometown and see what help is needed.  Our food bank is set up to allow children to help in a wonderful way (even Ami has little jobs she can do).  It’s just an hour, but hopefully the impact is great on those we serve, and especially on our children for molding their hearts to be like that of Jesus.

Through Michaela’s eyes

Michaela got a new camera a while back and I’ve just now looked through all the pictures she has taken.  It’s fun to see things from her perspective.  Here is just a small sampling.

Yes, that’s TP.  The kids decided to TP Benjamin’s room, and yes, he helped.  We seriously have a years’ supply of TP at our house, so it was fun to laugh with them at the 5 rolls they wasted.  :)

A special birthday present

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

Two years ago today we arrived home with Ami Jo-Li.  As we deboarded the plane I was so anxious to see my three oldest children; two weeks was a long time to be away from them.  I truly feel that the moment I embraced them and they got to meet their new sister was just as special as the moment Ami was placed in my arms.  It felt so good to have my four kiddos all together.  I can only imagine how special it will be to soon wrap my arms around five!

Today is also my mom’s birthday.  She was there to greet us at the airport and accept a new granddaughter as her birthday gift.  :)   Mom, thank you for giving me a role model to strive to be like and for planting in me the love of our Father.  With each passing year that I am a mother myself, I appreciate you more and more.  Happy birthday, Mom!

While I’m passing out the birthday greetings, let me wish a happy birthday to my dear friend, Amy!  We actually met at college in southern California, but it was in God’s amazing plan many years down the road that we met again in China when adopting our daughters.  It is amazing when you think of the “coincidental” details that brought us together again….adoption, same agency, same travel group, same province, etc.  I am very blessed with her friendship and hardly a day goes by that we don’t chat on the phone.  Happy Birthday, Amy!

Bragging

Is it okay to brag on my boy, since at this point I can’t personally accept any praise for great child rearing?  Great, I thought it would be okay.  :)   There is a mission team at PHF this week and they are reporting back to our PHF parents yahoo group about some of the kids and events of the day.  They are there loving on our kids and praying over each of them.  Steve wrote, “Elijah is the sweetest because he is either picking up the disabled kids who fell or putting one of the little ones on his lap.”  Is this kid great, or what?!  I am so proud of him.  He has been through more than we can ever imagine or fully understand, yet this is just one more instance where we have seen his heart of gold.  Thank you God for this resiliency within Elijah.

Spidey boy

So here is the latest thing we were able to find and fit inside Elijah’s weekly card!  Looks like the boys enjoyed a nice distraction from their homework.  :)   We love you, Elijah.  You make an awesome looking Spiderman!

The Artist Again!

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

PHF posted several new pictures on their website.  Only found one of Elijah, but it was enough to make us smile some more!

My sister also shared an encouraging word from God with us today.  Hebrews 10:35-37 says, “So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.  You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.  For in just a very little while, ‘He who is coming will come and will not delay.’”  Come, dear Elijah, come!!  Thanks for your prayers Aunt Jennifer!
